Watching him perform Larks Toungues in Aspic part 1 on YouTube from a Belgian TV show was amazing, he had such a crazy stage presence he was like the front man for the band. I also think he shaped King Crimsons sound in a big way.

He had recorded little aside from the self-titled album by Music Improvisation Company in 1970 with guitarist Derek Bailey and saxophonist Evan Parker, and had played in a more rock context with Pete Brown And The Battered Ornaments, Boris and Assagai, where he met keyboard player Alan Gowen.

Muir attended the Edinburgh College of Art during the 1960s, and began playing jazz on trombone.He soon lost interest and switched to percussion, stating that he preferred to be "in the wilds of uncertainty."
