James Tenney (August 10, 1934 – August 24, 2006) was an American composer and music theorist. He made significant early musical contributions to plunderphonics, sound synthesis, algorithmic composition, process music, spectral music, microtonal music, and tuning systems including extended just intonation.
Bio. James Tenney (1934–2006) was born in Silver City, New Mexico, and grew up in Arizona and Colorado, where he received his early training as a pianist and composer. He attended the University of Denver, the Juilliard School of Music, Bennington College (B.A. 1958), and the University of Illinois (M.A. 1961).

En primer lugar, la música del compositor estadounidense James Tenney, quien, entre sus muy diferentes músicas: estocásticas, electrónicas, indeterminadas, etc… exploró diversas afinaciones artificiales pero también la entonación justa –directamente relacionada con la serie de armónicos naturales– y el espectro sonoro.
Canta habitualmente como soprano invitada en el Teatro Colón. Ha can-tado roles protagónicos en Chile, Brasil, Perú, Italia y España, y ofrecido conciertos en Dubai y Kuwait. Fue nominada Mejor Cantante Lírica Argentina 2008/11.
