Alphonse Lee Mouzon (November 21, 1948 – December 25, 2016) [1] was an American musician and vocalist, most prominently known as a jazz fusion drummer. [2] He was also a composer, arranger, producer, and actor. Mouzon gained popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s. [3]

Drummer Alphonse Mouzon died on December 25, 2016. In the 1970s, along with Billy Cobham and Lenny White, Mouzon helped fashion a jazz-rock, or “fusion,” style of drumming by combining the volume, rhythms, and energy of rock playing with the polyrhythms, techniques, and finesse of jazz.
