22 de jul. de 2018 · By News Desk. July 22, 2018 8:38 pm. Anne Olivier Bell, who helped rescue European art from the Nazis alongside archaeologists and other art historians as part of the “Monuments Men” effort during World War II, died last week at age 102.
But among their ranks were several pioneering women, who lent critical expertise and dedication to the cause. These Monuments Women — including art scholars Rose Valland, Ardelia Hall and Anne Olivier Bell — worked tirelessly to document and track down looted art and cultural objects.
She was named after her great-aunt: her father wrote the first major biography of Virginia Woolf, while her mother, Anne Olivier Bell - who recently turned 100 herself - edited her diaries (as well as restoring Charleston and working in Germany as one of the 'monuments men', rescuing artworks from the Nazis).
