John Joseph Lydon ( / ˈlaɪdən /; born 31 January 1956), also known by his former stage name Johnny Rotten, is a singer. He was the lead vocalist of the punk rock band the Sex Pistols, which was active from 1975 to 1978, and again for various revivals during the 1990s and 2000s.

Real Name: John Joseph Lydon. Profile: Singer and lyricist (born 31 January 1956 in London, UK). Best known for his work as lead singer initially of the Sex Pistols (using the name Johnny Rotten ), then secondly under his real name in Public Image Limited (or "PIL" for short).
When the Sex Pistols split in January 1978 John quickly moved onto Public Image Limited (PiL). McLaren tried to legally prevent him using the name “Rotten” (which he later won back) – but regardless – this was a new beginning. Lydon’s unique vocal style and perceptive lyrics remained, however, PiL were nothing like the Sex Pistols.
