Geoffrey Downes (born 25 August 1952) is an English keyboardist who gained fame as a member of the new wave group the Buggles with Trevor Horn, the progressive rock band Yes, and the supergroup Asia. Born in Stockport, Downes moved to London to pursue a music career.
The Buggles are an English new wave band formed in London in 1977 by singer and bassist Trevor Horn and keyboardist Geoff Downes. They are best known for their 1979 debut single "Video Killed the Radio Star", which topped the UK Singles Chart and reached number one in 15 other countries and was chosen as the song to launch MTV in 1981.
The Buggles es una banda británica de new wave y synth pop formada en 1977. Estaba formada por Geoff Downes (teclados), Trevor Horn (bajo, guitarra, percusiones y voces) y Bruce Woolley. Antes del primer lanzamiento Woolley dejó la banda para formar The Camera Club junto a Thomas Dolby y Hans Zimmer.
El éxito de The Buggles hace que Downes y el ya citado Horn entren a formar parte en Yes para el álbum Drama y su tour de presentación. Cuando el grupo se separó, a comienzos de 1981, Downes se une a Steve Howe, Carl Palmer y John Wetton en un proyecto que fue llamado Asia.
