David Michael Alexander (June 3, 1947 – February 10, 1975) was an American musician, best known as the original bassist for influential protopunk band The Stooges. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 as a member of The Stooges.

He was full of contradictions: shy and mysterious, with a fast car and an unquenchable thirst for cheap beer and liquor. Ron Asheton described him as “way ahead of his time.” But Dave was fired from the Stooges, and died from alcoholism at age 27.
