Sometimes you just can’t make out what they’re saying, then you ask them to repeat it and again you can’t understand, then again, and finally I make a lighthearted joke about it because that’s just how some people are. Using spoken words to let people know i like being quiet seems to be sending a contradictory message.
You have to gain the confidence that it’s totally ok to be a quiet person. IMO being quiet, but deliberate, with your words is superior in every way to being loud, but flippant, with them. But the “deliberate” part is key; say “I’m quiet because that’s just who I am”, not just “I’m quiet”. And if you don’t like the person ...
