She was also a former member of Grimoire Heart, where she was the leader of the Seven Kin of Purgatory.
Magic has already been said to exist on its own in the Fairy Tail universe. (As it is the reason most of Fairy Tail is still alive despite the whole Edolas arc thing.) I'm thinking that a portion of Ultear's magic was turned into a copy of her when she casted Last Ages. Being a part of her magic, Ultear can still see the one trapped within time.
