Sería el último de los Romanov, la dinastía que durante tres siglos llevó las riendas de uno de los imperios más extensos del mundo, pero que a finales del siglo XIX necesitaba urgentemente reformas profundas, de tipo económico pero sobre todo político.

During his reign, Nicholas gave support to the economic and political reforms promoted by his prime ministers, Sergei Witte and Pyotr Stolypin.
