Due to Roald Dahl's hatred for the 1970s film, they wanted to remake it as close to the book as possible, but since the original was so popular, everyone bashed on Tim Burton for making a "shitty remake" of a classic movie when really they were trying to do the opposite. This film honestly deserved better.
