The Trammps are an American disco and soul band, who were based in Philadelphia and were one of the first disco bands. The band's first major success was their 1972 cover version of " Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart ", while the first disco track they released was "Love Epidemic" in 1973.

Disco's most soulful vocal group began in 1960s Philadelphia as The Volcanos (2), and were also called The Moods. Gene Faith was the original lead vocalist, with Earl Young, Jimmy Ellis (2), guitarist Dennis Harris, keyboardist Ron Kersey, organist John Hart (9), bassist Stanley Wade, and drummer Michael Thomas.
The Trammps began in Philadelphia in 1972 featuring vocalist, Jimmy Ellis, Harold Doc Wade, Stanley Wade and Earl Young and traveled with as many as 11 members, culled from the ranks of the busiest and best musicians, many of whom also played for Gamble and Huff's Philly International and later for Vince Montana's Salsoul Orchestra.
