  1. The player is the real-world person playing Undertale. The player is asked to " name the fallen human ." The player controls the protagonist by moving the protagonist's physical body and SOUL .

  2. The Player Entity is an enigmatic creature that influences Frisk throughout Undertale. Due to seeing Undertale's world as a mere game and its characters as fictional, they seem to lack empathy for the characters and are willing to even kill all of them just to see a different ending.

  3. Many believe that we the player exist in the canon of Undertale's story, and control Frisk. This theory originated from the game's general self aware writing and fourth wall breaks, and despite never once being confirmed by Toby, (or even in the game) it has since become significantly more popular thanks to Deltarune.

  4. There's evidence contradicting and supporting it. It was inspired by Earthbound and the player was canon there, and there have been times where the characters are talking directly towards the screen.

Frisk is the character who you play as and, unless we really want to get philosophical about things, the player is Frisk. Chara, the fallen child, or whatever you named them, is not the player.

  6. Asriel Dreemurr. Frisk is the playable character, main protagonist, and the eighth human in Undertale. After falling into the Underground, they venture to return to the surface, whether neutrally, genocidally, or peacefully.

  7. What is the player? You, the player, as you play through the game and control Frisk. What are you? You aren't Frisk him/herself, because some characters speak directly to you, the player. You aren't Frisk's soul, because Chara "buys" Frisk's soul from you. Does anyone have a clue? What could control Frisk besides his/her soul?
