The filming locations in Scotland and Hungary are stunningly beautiful. The music score by Atli Orvarsson captures the beauty, brutality and haunting atmosphere of the landscapes and human moments of this movie. "The Eagle" is another fine movie of the sword-and-sandal genre. It is an enjoyable throwback to the swords and shields movies of old.

So much does it evoke the energy of traditional sword-and-shield movies that I had to bring the term "rip-snorting" out of retirement; it's rarely needed in this era of sleek technology.
