8 de mar. de 2010 · Well, if Live in Tokyo 1983 is any indication, they'd have been a kick-butt Americana outfit that still had a whole lotta life left in them. Playing with the Cate Brothers Band, the Band mixed classic rock covers alongside familiar J.R. Robertson written favorites to create a wildly entertaining setlist that aimed to -- and succeeded at -- pleasing their decades long followers.
This performance, in Tokyo, was filmed in 1983, when the reformed Band toured without Robbie Robertson but with Earl Cate on lead guitar, plus three other members of the Cate Brothers Band. The line-up and the set list are both similar to those in the concert filmed in Vancouver the same year, titled 'The Band is Back'.

From about 1983 until 1986, The Band consisted of original members Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson, along with the four members of Fayetteville Arkansas's Cate Brothers Band, Earl and Ernie Cate, Ron Eoff, and Terry Cagle. Terry is Levon's nephew and plays and sings a lot like his Uncle Levon.
