Ted Knight (born Tadeusz Wladyslaw Konopka; December 7, 1923 – August 26, 1986) was an American actor known for playing the comedic roles of Ted Baxter in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Henry Rush in Too Close for Comfort and Judge Elihu Smails in Caddyshack.

Ted Knight is the original super-hero to use the name Starman. Beginning adulthood as a wealthy heir in Opal City, he dedicated himself to science and developed the Gravity Rod. This allowed him to manipulate energy, and his cousin Phantom Lady encouraged him to become a super-hero. His girlfriend during this time was Doris Lee.
