Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006) was an English singer, ... He began a brief solo career in 1969 with the single "Octopus", followed by albums The Madcap Laughs (1970) and Barrett (1970), recorded with the aid of three other members of Pink Floyd.

Released in a front laminated gatefold sleeve with the disc housed in the rear opening and the front opening is glued shut with no inner flap. The backcover states printing date 6911 (November 1969). This was clearly in advance of the 1970 release date. Variation 1: 'PATENT APPLIED FOR' and 'MADE IN ENGLAND'.
