Swansea Metropolitan University (Welsh: Prifysgol Fetropolitan Abertawe) is a former university based in Swansea, Wales, UK. The university merged with, and became a constituent campus of, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David on 1 August 2013.
It enjoys the accolade of being the birthplace of higher education in Wales. The University’s 1828 Royal Charter is the oldest of any university in Wales. Today, UWTSD is a dynamic institution with campuses Swansea, Carmarthen, Lampeter, Cardiff, London, and Birmingham.

In October of 2011, the governing bodies of the University of Wales, Swansea Metropolitan University and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David made a commitment to irrevocable constitutional change and merger.
The university’s main campuses are situated in and around Swansea’s city center and in the rural towns of Lampeter and Carmarthen in South West Wales. The Wales International Academy of Voice, under the Directorship of Dennis O’Neill with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa as its patron, is located in Cardiff.
