Species 2000 is a federation of database organizations around the world that compiles the Catalogue of Life, a comprehensive checklist of the world's species, in partnership with the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS).
Catalogue of Life (en español: Catálogo de la vida) es un catálogo exhaustivo de todas las especies de organismos conocidos en la Tierra. Comenzó en junio de 2001 como una iniciativa de Species 2000 y el Sistema Integrado de Información Taxonómica (ITIS) y está previsto que sirva como una base de datos taxonómicos.

The Species 2000 & ITIS Catalogue of Life is planned to become a comprehensive catalogue of all known species of organisms on Earth. Rapid progress has been made recently and this Catalogue of Life edition contains 1,583,924 species.

Continuous progress is made towards completion, but for now, it probably includes just over 80% of the world's known species.
