The congregation of the Sisters of the Destitute was born on 19th March 1927 according to the infinite plan and providence of God.Until the 19th century there was no organized from of charitable services in Kerala to care for the poor and the destitute, aged and infirm, unwanted and downtrodden fellow men abandoned in the streets or uncared for at home.

Today the Sisters of the Destitute live and work two communities in the USA: Shreveport, LA, and Beaumont, TX. The sisters work in healthcare ministry at Christus Hospital. On Sunday, December 5, 2021, Holy Trinity Pastor Fr. Duane Trombetta recognized the sisters for their important work, and presented them with an etched acrylic keepsake of our parish's 165th Anniversary.

Sisters of the Destitute. On 19 March 1927, Payyappilly founded the Sisters of the Destitute in Chunangamvely. This organisation was intended to continue what he saw as Christ's redemptive mission among the poor. He found abandoned people, brought them to the shelter of the Home for the Aged and nursed them.
