Martin Scorsese's Silence tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson), at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden.
Unfortunately the film barely comes close to the lyricism, humanity, and central theme of accepting the responsibility to hold your own faith selfishly as an individual. Scorsese is a great director and although everyone did a great job the film comes across as a “story” rather than a treatise on faith and humanity.
