8 de feb. de 2023 · Ringo Starr goes into hospital. Ringo Starr began his 10-day stay at University College Hospital, London on 1 December 1964. He was booked in to have his tonsils removed, an operation which took place the following day. Prior to his arrival on the ward, Starr gave a brief press conference to assembled reporters.
When Ringo Starr became ill with tonsillitis and was hospitalised on 3 June 1964, the eve of the Beatles' 1964 Australasian tour, the band's manager Brian Epstein and their producer George Martin urgently discussed the feasibility of using a stand-in drummer rather than cancelling part of the tour. Martin suggested Jimmie Nicol as he had recently used him on a recording session with Tommy Quickly.
Another record which Ringo Starr holds among his famous bandmates is that he was the first Beatle to try cannabis. In August 1964, the Beatles were introduced to American folk star Bob Dylan. When Dylan offered cannabis cigarettes for them to try, most of the band was too hesitant to take him up on the offer. Starr, however, agreed to light one up.
