Sure, pretty people catch your eye more than what you would consider "ugly," but once you're actually talking to them, its the vibe that matters. Pretty or ugly people can have pretty or ugly personalities. Pretty people definitely have advantages socially, which just means people need to work harder to push through any stereotypes pushed on them.
Yes we use those words to describe things that are pleasant. A pretty voice or smell is pretty common use. To describe looks, i think a blind person can learn to describe looks, they just wouldnt be able to tell you for sure.
