The Höfner 500/1 Violin Bass (sometimes nicknamed the "Beatle Bass" or "Cavern Bass") is a model of electric bass manufactured by Höfner under several varieties. It was introduced in 1955 and gained celebrity status during the 1960s as the primary bass used by Paul McCartney of The Beatles.

Finally the bass is back where it belongs. Paul McCartney purchased his first bass guitar, a Hofner 500/1 model, when he was in Hamburg in 1961. But it was stolen in October 1972 and not seen again. We set out to find it! This was the bass that powered Beatlemania.

The legendary Beatle's first Hofner bass, which was taken in 1972, was returned to him thanks to a global search by fans and Hofner Guitars. The bass, which he used in many Beatles songs, was found in an attic by a film student who inherited it from the thief.
