  6. The swordfish (Xiphias gladius) is a cosmopolitan species that is found from tropical to temperate waters (between 5 and 27°C). Commercial catch data indicate a latitudinal distribution that extends from 50°N to 45°S in the western Pacific and from 50°N to 35°S in the eastern Pacific (Nakamura, 1985).
