It featured a mahogany body with a maple cap, with the wood grain highly visible under the finish. Its neck, too, was mahogany, with a slimmer profile common to Gibson Les Pauls from the 1960s onwards.

  2. Noels first Gibson Les Paul was a 1960 sunburst model which he borrowed from Johnny Marr – ex-guitarist of The Smiths. Noel wrote and recorded “Slide Away” and “Live Forever” on this guitar. Unfortunately he broke the guitar’s neck in 1994 in Newcastle when a fan climb on the stage and Noel used the guitar to defend himself.

  7. Details. The iconic Sunburst Gibson Les Paul has quite a bit of background. The guitar started life as a 1953 Goldtop, with a trapeze or wrap-around tailpiece and P90 pickups: at a later date it was converted to the coveted 1958-1960 "Burst" specs.
