Los nervios son estructuras conductoras de impulsos nerviosos situadas fuera del sistema nervioso central. Están formados por un conjunto de axones agrupados, cada uno de los cuales procede de una neurona. Pueden ser motores o sensitivos, pero la mayor parte son mixtos y contienen tanto fibras sensitivas como motoras.
