Rakesh Gurung, director of Nepal’s Department of Tourism, said Britain’s Kenton Cool, 50, and Nepali guide Kami Rita Sherpa, 54, climbed the 8,849-metre (29,032 foot) peak for the 18th and 29th time, respectively.

The 37-year-old tourist, identified by his surname Liang, is believed to have lost his balance after he climbed the rock face. He dropped down about 82ft (25m) and was found unconscious. Police said they were alerted to the death at around noon on Sunday.
