A village is plagued by a spate of seemingly accidental deaths, but Miss Marple is convinced a more sinister hand is involved when a villager on her way to Scotland Yard is conveniently dispatched.
Miss Marple meets Luke Fitzwilliam (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) in the village. He is not retired, but an active police detective, and is dealing with a deceased relative's property. Both recognise one another's investigative inclinations and work together to solve the murders.

Murder is Easy was not originally a Miss Marple book, and changes the murderer's motive. In this adaptation, it is Miss Marple who meets Lavinia Pinkerton on the train. After Miss Marple reads about Lavinia being killed, she travels to Wychwood under Ashe for the funeral.
A serial killer in a quiet English village is the plot of this 1938 novel by Agatha Christie. It features Superintendent Battle and Miss Marple, and has been adapted for TV, stage and radio.

Premise. Luke Fitzwilliam (Jonsson) is a Nigerian attaché on his way to Whitehall when he meets the mysterious Miss Pinkerton (Wilton) on a train. Pinkerton discusses with him that a series of deaths in the village of Wychwood-Under-Ashe are not accidental and there’s a killer on the loose.
