The Milky Way belongs to a cluster of at least 40 galaxies. The so-called Local Group has two large spiral galaxies – the Milky Way and Andromeda. The others are much smaller. They include two galaxies that can be seen with the naked eye from countries south of the equator.

Our Galaxy is a spiral galaxy that formed approximately 14 billion years ago. Contained in the Milky Way are stars, clouds of dust and gas called nebulae, planets, and asteroids.

25 de feb. de 2022 · The Milky Way is 105,700 light-years wide while the Andromeda Galaxy is 220,000 light-years in width. By the way, the Local Group — a group of multiple galaxies including the Milky Way — extends for roughly 10 million light-years around us in space.
