Desde los seis años de edad Matt recibió clases de piano, clarinete y violín, pero las abandonó porque no le gustaba que los profesores le dijeran cómo tocar. Siguió tocando el piano de manera autodidacta y no disciplinada. Su primera actuación fue en 1991 con 12 años, tocando el piano en su colegio Teignmouth Community College. [7]
Matthew started playing piano at 6 when his brother influenced him to play a soundtrack from a TV series by holding him in front of the TV and then putting him in front of the piano. Matthew managed to play the song and his brother used to make him play it in front of his friends for show off.
