Lhotse is the 4 th highest mountain in the world, and stands as part of the imposing Everest massif. Its name translates from Tibetan as ’South Peak’, reflecting Lhotse’s unfair status as an inferior checkpoint en route to the bigger prize in the north. Yet, Lhotse is far from an inferior climbing prospect (see below).
