Karekare is a small coastal settlement in West Auckland, New Zealand, sandwiched between the Waitākere Ranges and a large black sand surf beach. Geography. It is located 35 kilometres (22 mi) west of Auckland city centre, south of the larger beach of Piha.

Head out on this 4.5-mile loop trail near Karekare, Auckland. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 46 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
On the west shore of Auckland, 35 kilometres from Auckland city centre, the secluded black sandy beach. The more famous Piha Beach with the famed Lion Rock is nearby and the surfing culture is a favourite. But on the way to Piha beach, turn left off Piha Road and take the road to Karekare.
22 de jun. de 2023 · Below is a helpful map showing where exactly Karekare Beach and Karekare Falls are located. While getting to the waterfall is pretty straightforward, it can be a bit tricky to get onto the beach. Before heading out to the Karekare area, I read that it can get a bit confusing to get onto Karekare Beach itself.
Distance: 21km. Total ascent/descent: 300m/300m. Difficulty: Easy. Weather: Fine (September 2022). Accommodation: Day walk. However, there are campsites at Tunnel Point, Pararaha Valley and Whatipu if you wish to stretch the trip out. Route: From Karekare, head south along the beach to Tunnel Point, then continue to Pararaha Valley.
