El proyecto fue liderado por el arquitecto Sir Horace Jones y el ingeniero Sir John Wolfe Barry, quienes enfrentaron el desafío de diseñar un puente que permitiera el paso de barcos de gran altura a través del Támesis, sin obstruir el creciente tráfico fluvial de la época.
