5 de nov. de 2000 · After the death of his first wife, Alvern, in 1967, he married Anna Carter Gordon, a member of the gospel group the Chuck Wagon Gang, in 1969. Davis was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1972, the year after he lost the election for his third-term governorship.

He and his ten siblings lived in dire poverty, but Davis paid his way through Louisiana College and Louisiana State University as a street musician.
James Houston Davis (September 11, 1899 – November 5, 2000) was an American singer, songwriter, and politician. After achieving fame for releasing both sacred and popular songs, Davis served as governor of Louisiana from 1944 to 1948 and again from 1960 to 1964.
