  2. 23 de abr. de 2024 · During his first days in Cuzco, Irving Penn suffered from altitude sickness, remaining in his hotel for three days. After adjusting to the altitude, Penn’s yearning to capture the local townspeople led him to look for a studio.

  4. Following an experience in Cuzco working in a daylight studio, Penn sought out other opportunities to improvise or bring a studio with him to make portraits in a neutral environment. These encounters attempted to bridge the gaps of language, culture, and geography, to connect on a human level.

Penn worked during the Christmas holidays, a time when indigenous peoples traveled to the city to sell their crafts and wares.
