The Statler in Cleveland was initially converted into an office building in 1980 as The Statler Tower. In 2001 the building was converted into a 295-unit apartment building, Statler Arms. It was renamed The Statler in 2019.
Cleveland's Hotel Statler (see STATLER OFFICE TOWER) was considered to be the first complete expression of the modern 20th-century hotel. The earliest inns in the region were typical 18th-century taverns, i.e., 2- or sometimes 3-story frame houses with public parlors and a kitchen on the ground floor and several bedrooms above.
