High art is a term that refers to works of art that are of the highest quality and value, produced by highly skilled artists and having great cultural significance. The web page explains the history, forms, and examples of high art, as well as the difference between high art and low art.
Much of high culture consists of the appreciation of what is sometimes called "high art". This term is rather broader than Arnold's definition and besides literature includes music, visual arts (especially painting ), and traditional forms of the performing arts (including some cinema ).
