Grootfontein (English: great spring, named after the nearby hot springs) is a town with 26,839 inhabitants in the Otjozondjupa Region of central Namibia. It is one of the three towns in the Otavi Triangle, situated on the B8 national road that leads from Otavi to the Caprivi Strip.

The town lies 36 miles (60 km) southeast of the copper- and lead-mining centre of Tsumeb and 210 air miles northeast of Windhoek, the national capital, in a semiarid region of varied grasses, shrubs, and large trees. The Hoba (/ ˈ h oʊ b ə / HOH-bə) meteorite is named after the farm Hoba West, where it lies, not far from Grootfontein, in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. It has been uncovered, but because of its large mass, has never been moved from where it fell. The main mass is estimated at more than 60 tonnes.
Grootfontein is a city of 24,000 people (2011) in Otjozondjupa, Namibia. Like all the towns in the Otavi Triangle, Grootfontein is very green in summer but drier in winter. In spring, jacaranda and flamboyant trees bloom in profusion.
