El sello discográfico Virgin le fichó para que debutase en solitario, en 1995, con el álbum Love scars. Le sucedería tres años más tarde Greycourt lightning, de lejos su trabajo más popular en España. Por entonces, Perry era ya un habitual del Manny's Car Wash, el más pujante de los locales de blues de Manhattan.

Bill Perry's musical focus tends to be on blues-rock, but he mixes in some blues & rock ballads, solo accoustic blues, blues shuffle, slide guitar, and one straight blues song to give Greycourt Lightning a good variety of styles. Of the thirteen songs on this CD, all but two are originals.

"Greycourt Lightning" is his second release. 1995's "Love Scars" earned praises from all corners, being called "an astounding solo debut" by Guitar Player magazine. This album takes an expanded instrumental approach, with horns, piano, and Hammond B3 added to the basics.
