People only think it’s cheesy because of things like the objectively dated fashion and style. Miami Vice remains one of the best episodic television shows ever. Compare it to its contemporaries: TJ Hooker, Hunter, Hill Street Blues, Dukes of Hazzard, the A Team. Vice had better storylines and cinematography than any of those shows.

First, the show proved it was capable of character development, having Crockett and Tubbs (and the rest of the ensemble cast) become more jaded, more seasoned and more willing to bend the rules to get the job done.
