Sinopsis – La película se divide en dos partes y ambas estudian los efectos de la mentalidad militar y de la guerra de Vietnam en los soldados americanos. En la primera, seguimos a un grupo de reclutas en un campo de entrenamiento bajo el mando del terrible Sargento Hartman. En la segunda nos centramos en el recluta Joker que sigue la ofensiva del Tet como corresponsal para 'Stars and Stripes'.
