As of 2006, the Alan Smithee version had been released in a two disk set containing both the Lynch version and the extended version. However, many scenes were edited out once again: The heart plug scene when the baron is introduced is not in the extended version anymore (it is still in the original).

There is no Lynch-approved extended cut. The Alan Smithee edit was for television, so for a long time it was only available in pan-and-scan format. Since they cut off the sides of the image, they sometimes used a shot twice - using the left side and the right side as two different shots.
