Don Glen van Vliet (* 1941 Glendale, California, † 2010 Arcata, California), alias Captain Beefheart, was known for his experimental rock music from the late 1960s onwards. The general recognition of the potential of his music did not begin until the end of his music career, and in retrospect, he is seen as one of the most important musicians in the history of rock music.
