Undyne ( /ˈʌnˌdaɪn/ UN-dyne ), [1] [2] is a major character and the third boss in Undertale. Undyne leads the Royal Guard, which protects Asgore and patrols the Underground to find humans. She pursues the protagonist throughout Waterfall, though she is inadvertently thwarted by Monster Kid .

Undyne and Toriel are the only bosses that the protagonist can flee from during a battle. However, Undyne's battle can only be fled from if the protagonist's SOUL is red. Undyne the Undying is the only boss in the Genocide Route that cannot be defeated in 1 hit.
Bête then ruthlessly spears Undyne with her own weapon, causing Undyne's body to start shattering. However, through her own determination and will to kill Bête, Undyne transforms into The Undying, knowing it is do or die.
