Dik and his brother Dave were two of six people to respond to a note that Larry Mullen Jr. posted on the notice board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in search of musicians for a new band. The group set up in Mullen's kitchen, with the Evans brothers on guitar; [3] at the first meeting, the duo shared a single home-made instrument between them.
Richard "Dik" Evans started out in music as a member of The Hype with his brother David, now better known as The Edge. Dik left the group before it became U2 and became a founding member of Virgin Prunes, which he left in 1984. In 1988 he played on one track on the first album by The Prunes (2).
