History of Deke Slayton – Deke Slayton Museum. Donald Kent (Deke) Slayton was born on March 1, 1924 to a local farming family in Sparta, Wisconsin. Growing up Deke always knew he wanted to do something more with his life than farm.
The Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bicycle Museum in Sparta, Wisconsin was named in his honor. The Slayton biographical exhibit includes his Mercury space suit, his Ambassador of Exploration Award, which showcases a lunar sample, and more.
Hours of Operation. 10:00am- 4:00pm Tuesday – Saturday. Closed on holidays. Admission. Adults: $5.00. Seniors 65+: $4.00. Children ages 5-14: $3.00. Children 4 & under: Free.
