I find it hilarious that Hitchcock, the mass entertainer, made arguably the greatest art-film ever. At least art-film in terms of mass appeal. Nobody has ever come close (maybe David Lynch with Mulholland Drive or Blue Velvet), but Mulholland Drive is just a typical puzzle, dream-state film. There are ton of films like that.
