Chester Cortez Thompson (born December 11, 1948) is an American drummer, percussionist, session musician, producer, and teacher. He performed with Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention from 1973 to 1975, and with the progressive rock band Genesis from 1977 to 1992, and again in 2007.

Thompson tornou-se conhecido como músico de sessão, tocando com a banda de turnê de Frank Zappa (na formações de 1973 e 1974 que também contavam com o percussionista Ruth Underwood e o tecladista George Duke) e com o Weather Report.

For example, he was a drummer with the jazz fusion band Weather Report, and from there moved to the completely different job of touring drummer for Genesis.
