Page 3 launched the careers of many well-known British glamour models in the 1980s, including Debee Ashby, Donna Ewin, Samantha Fox, Kirsten Imrie, Kathy Lloyd, Gail McKenna, Suzanne Mizzi, and Maria Whittaker, some of whom were aged 16 or 17 when they started modeling for the feature.

Labour MP Clare Short led a campaign in the late 1980s to ban Page 3 girls from Britain’s tabloid newspapers with her proposed ‘Indecent Displays (Newspapers) Bill’, claiming the pictures helped create a “sex culture which encourages rape and sexual abuse”. The British government never enacted the legislation.
In the 80's and early 90's, page 3 girls were celebrities outside of glamour modelling. The top girls back then would appear on TV on a regular basis, mainly on chat and quiz shows. In the late 90's breast implants were banned by The Sun. All girls such as Jordan and Melinda Messenger who had them were 'retired' from page 3.
Samantha Fox is a British dance-pop singer, actress, and former model ( photo gallery ). In 1983 she began appearing on Page 3 of The Sun, and continued as a Page 3 girl for four years. She became the most popular pin-up girl of her era, as well as one of the most photographed British women of the eighties.

Maria, a quiet schoolgirl, was barely sixteen when she was propelled into the limelight after appearing topless in the newspaper. Whittaker did, however, appear as a dancer in two episodes of The Benny Hill Show in 1983 before moving on to modelling.
